Building Unity Award goes to Global Unity Builder

Sacramento, CA - August 9, 2007

The Sacramento News & Review and the Interfaith Service Bureau are pleased to announce the award recipient of the 2007 Building Unity Award, Kais Menoufy. Menoufy is the President & CEO of Delegata, and founder of Youth for a Better Understanding, Closing the Gap and most recently, the new global initiative called Building Bridges. The award, an annual tradition since it was first given in 2003 at SN&R’s A Call for Unity, is a way to recognize those individuals who make outstanding contributions to interfaith understanding and cooperation in our community. Menoufy is the first individual to receive the award as a business leader, not a religious leader.

In addition to running Delegata, a Capital Region technology consulting and systems integration company in Sacramento, Menoufy founded Youth for a Better Understanding to bring young Americans together to be a productive part of the community while learning about each other’s ethnic, cultural, and faith backgrounds. Closing the Gap is another initiative founded by Menoufy with the help of Dennis McKenna and Dana Howard. Closing the Gap provided 25 students with a college scholarship and ten local students tutoring and preparation for their SAT exams that would otherwise not have been available to them.

More recently, he initiated Building Bridges, a program connecting educational leaders from the United States and the Middle East to discuss collaborative initiatives in education, technology, science and agriculture. Starting at the University level, Menoufy took the Chancellor of UC Davis to meet with over 250 senior level officials in Egypt this past March, making tremendous progress by signing six agreements for collaboration through Building Bridges.

Additionally, he has been a leader in many community efforts including the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration dinner and the multicultural evening at the Memorial Auditorium. His efforts have brought people of many faiths and walks of life together.

The award will be presented to Menoufy at SN&R’s A Call for Unity, an evening of interfaith music, a celebration of community, taking place September 8, 2007 at the Robert and Margrit Mondavi Center for the Performing Arts, UC Davis. All proceeds for this event benefit Sacramento Habitat for Humanity
