On April 26th, 2008, with the belief that music can build bridges between different peoples, Delegata partnered with the Sacramento Philharmonic and together they embarked on an ambitious and highly successful concert project called the Songs of Hope. This coming year, we are proud to present Songs of Hope II, the second annual unique multi-cultural musical experience on January 23, 2010 at the Community Center Theater.  Music Director, Michael Morgan and Executive Director, Marc Feldman, have invited musicians from Israel, Egypt, Iran, and the U.S. to live and work in Sacramento for a week of classes, dialogues, and a night of unity and harmony with the Songs of Hope II concert.

This concert series is the natural extension of our ambitious project to build bridges of understanding between The Middle East and the United States. In 2009, Michael Morgan conducted a concert with the Cairo Opera Orchestra.  Songs of Hope II will be conducted by Egyptian Maestro, Nader Abbassi, and the Philharmonic will be joined by two extraordinary musicians: Shai Wosner, a renowned pianist from Israel, and Khosrow Soltani, a leading Ney (Persian Flute) player. Together, they will explore compositions by Mozart, Reza Vali, Rimsky-Korsakov, and the Maestro himself, Nader Abbassi in a beautiful mix of cultures that is Songs of Hope.

Songs of Hope 2008

In 2004, UNESCO formed a Peace Symphony in 2004 that used music as common ground to bring cultures together. Highlighting a 10 day tour throughout Sacramento, Delegata is partnering with the Sacramento Philharmonic Orchestra to present this concept to Sacramento on April 26th, 2008 at the Community Center Theater with a unique concert entitled, Songs of Hope. Music Director, Michael Morgan and CEO, Marc Feldman has invited musicians from Israel, Egypt, Palestine, Jordan, and the U.S. to live and work in Sacramento for 10 days of concerts, classes and dialogues. This tour throughout Sacramento is based on the premise that music can build bridges and create understanding between people in conflict.

Under Egyptian Maestro, Nader Abassi’s leadership, Orchestra for Peace was comprised of Israeli and Arab musicians who performed throughout Europe and the Middle East as an example of dialogue and hope.  Their promising example leads to an invitation to perform at the Nobel Prize Conference in Petra, Jordan hosted by King Abdullah of Jordan and Nobel Laureate, Elie Wiesel. Maestro Abassi, accompanied by his Orchestra for Peace soloists Sonia Rubinsky and Taiseer Elias, will join The Sacramento Philharmonic in the musical mix of cultures that is Songs of Hope.

Serene and affirmative, this work inspires audiences to a new level of hope for mankind. The last words of the Psalms, sung in Hebrew, are a heartfelt plea for peace in turbulent times:
"Behold how good and pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity."
